What is Garuda, and how long have you been practicing this type of yoga/pilates?

Garuda is a blend of different techniques; pilates, yoga, tai chi, and dance. A comprehensive movement system using a yoga mat or large apparatus, barre, and props. I have been teaching Garuda for 8 years. I am a master trainer, enabling me to certify other teachers in this method. 

How does one find a studio that offers Garuda classes?

As it is a new emerging method, the reach is not widespread yet. Hopefully in good time, this teaching will expand, as it is a wonderful evolvement of traditional yoga and pilates practices. 

What is your favorite yoga pose?

Halāsana or plough pose! This asana feels so wonderful for my spine and nervous system. Preferably, at the end of the practice, but before I teach, so I can feel mobile, calm, and energized!  

Where is your favorite place to practice yoga?

Outside by the ocean! I prefer to be out in nature. I have experienced many wonderful yoga practices, from India to LA to Paris! I am a nomadic student, and I enjoy taking classes everywhere I go. 

You are in incredible shape; do you follow a specific diet?

The quality of my diet, health, and fitness go up and down, but that is life! My priorities revolve around being healthy and strong. I spent a lot of time in ballet school, and I am not interested in diets anymore. 

What do you like to do for fun in New Zealand?

Explore the beautiful nature New Zealand has to offer! I love photography, so I try to capture it all!
