Aimee Challies - Garuda NZ

Meet Aimee Challies, an accomplished Garuda practitioner and master trainer. Her passion is to help others through movement, and to inspire people to get out of their comfort zone.

Where are you from?

I am a Kiwi, born and based in New Zealand, with a wandering soul; I love to explore! My work, the Garuda Method, is developed in London, so I teach and train frequently in the U.K, Europe, and Australia.

How and when did you start yoga?

I was an aspiring Classical Ballet dancer and discovered yoga and other movement modalities at a young age, to condition my body and rehabilitate ballet injuries. This is where my lifelong passion for movement medicine began!

Tell us about your yoga practice and where you teach.

I move my body in a Garuda, Yoga, Pilates way - everyday. I often move with my students as I like them to feel the rhythm and flow of the practice.

My favorite indulgence is my own quiet practice, where I always discover a new sensation in my body and another aspect to the movement. These moments are gold! The great thing about travel is being able to experience a vast variety of teachers and styles. I've taught in many different studios; from Melbourne, London, and Paris.

What do you love most about teaching yoga?

The people! It is a privilege to guide someone through their movement journey. To experience someone getting stronger and supple is really exciting and rewarding.

Your advice to beginner yogis?

Play and explore! Embrace the journey and be patient with your body. Treat your body with the same compassion as you would treat a dear friend.

Your favorite wellness tip?

Nature is good for the soul, and movement in nature is even better!

What do you like to do for fun?

I'm perpetually learning to surf! It's humbling, but incredibly fun!

Your life mantra?

Get out of your comfort zone and jump into the deep end, because that's where the good stuff is!
