SESSIONSWITHSTESSIE

Stephanie Jackson, a Kriya Veda brand ambassador and yoga guru, joined us recently to share her passion for health and wellness. Stephanie is a world traveler, and not to mention, an expert at making gluten free pancakes!

Where are you from?

All over the place! I consider both Virginia and Florida home. I was born in Seattle, but also lived in Northern Virginia and Ft. Lauderdale. After finishing college in Florida, I lived in New York City, Washington D.C., Portland, and most recently, Hanoi, Vietnam.

What inspires you?

I grew up dancing, so my biggest inspiration comes from music and movement. Whether it is ballet, modern, hip hop, or even meditation and yoga - I find it all motivating and inspiring! I am also a huge book nerd. If I’m not moving in some capacity (through exercise and travel) I'm usually found reading and writing. It has always been much easier for me to express myself through writing than talking. So when I'm in search of inspiration or I'm in a funk - writing is my go to.

Favorite place to travel?

I just got back from an 8 month trip to South East Asia and it was absolutely incredible. We were living in Hanoi, but had the opportunity to explore so many amazing surrounding cities and countries. My favorite, was Siem Reap, Cambodia. The temples at Angkor Wat are one of, if not, the most impressive I have ever witnessed in my life. Not only is the architecture and vastness simply mind blowing, but the culture and spirituality of the site will leave you breathless. It was truly a work of art. You leave understanding that the world is so much greater than ourselves, and how we are all connected through our search to find higher meaning in our lives.

Favorite workout?

Yoga, dance, fitness boot camp, Pilates - I love it all!! My favorite is probably mat Pilates. It is the perfect combination of upbeat movement, great music, and toning of the body without being too over the top. For me, it is all about balance. I like to focus on my core, and Pilates incorporates so many different motions, that I never get bored. Planks are my go to exercise, especially when I am traveling, and it becomes difficult to find the time and space to get a good workout in. It is easy to do planks and leg hold variations in a hotel room. I previously took a mat Pilates class in Portland, which sparked my love for Pilates practice. It was only once a week, but I swear I was in the best shape of my life!

Your go to healthy meal/snack?

Bananas! They are super easy to travel with, and provide a boost of energy before class. Plus, they help with cramping during a workout and are great for digestion. I am gluten free, and one of the things I miss the most, is eating pancakes. But I have a great gluten free pancake recipe - 1 egg, 1 banana, add some cinnamon and blueberries. They are just as good!! It’s a quick, easy, and healthy way to still feel like I am indulging in delicious pancakes.

Favorite Kriya Veda product?

My aqua eco mat! I take it everywhere with me. It is bright, fun, and always inspires me to get my booty out of bed for early morning yoga sessions!
